The exquisite architectural details of this home work in perfect harmony with classic design creating a comfortable and timeless respite for the owners and their guests.
This 7,000 square foot residence located on the Intracoastal waterway just steps from Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach calls upon the glamorous era of the 1920’s in Palm Beach, and it’s famous society architects of the time – Addison Mizner and Maurice Fatio. The homeowner, a member of the Florida Historical Commission, and an ardent and wide-ranging collector for this era, was dedicated to designing a home that was true to these style-setting architects’ work, and that would be a showcase for her expansive collections. Very much a collaborative project, we incorporated courtyards and loggias that exploit ocean breezes, and architectural details that evoke this Spanish-Colonial style – hand painted tiles, custom wrought-iron railings and lighting, a heavy wooden front door studded with nails, pecky cypress wood-beamed ceilings and a beautiful ceiling done in a star motif. A cast-stone fireplace in the Office was created specifically for a stunning Tiffany’s fireplace surround from the homeowner’s collection. And, a few antiquing trips to Palm Beach led to some exciting finds including the door to the portico of the Kennedy’s Winter White House that we incorporated as a Cabana door, and a set of 8 lanterns that were refinished and electrified, and installed on the expansive Loggia. It was important that the furnishings be designed for comfort and the layout for function to accommodate the client’s day-to-day routine as well as her entertaining needs. The exquisite architectural details of this home work in perfect harmony with classic design creating a comfortable and timeless respite for the owners and their guests.
